In a ceremony held on 10 October at Palácio do Itamaraty, the Minister of External Relations, Antonio de Aguiar Patriota, and the Attorney-General, Luís Inácio Lucena Adams, signed a Protocol of Intentions to enhance, by means of technical training activities, the assistance given by the Office of the Attorney-General (AGU) to the fulfillment of the responsibilities bore by the Ministry of External Relations in upholding the interests of the Brazilian State at international organizations for dispute settlements.

Based on the provisions of the Protocol, activities will be developed to promote theoretical and practical training for members of both organs, with a view to improving the defense of Brazilian interests within international organizations for dispute settlements. Among those initiatives are workshops, lectures and other joint academic and practical initiatives; the participation of AGU members in Brazilian diplomatic missions attached to international organizations for dispute settlement; and joint work between MRE and AGU for providing information on the national legal framework.

The Protocol strengthens the partnership record between MRE and AGU in upholding Brazilian interests in many fora, and will contribute to the continued participation of the Brazilian State, led by MRE, in disputes under the jurisdiction of international organizations for dispute settlements.
