It is with deep sorrow that the Brazilian Government has learned of the passing, on June 16, of Helmut Kohl, Germany's chancellor from 1982 to 1998.
Kohl represented, for Germany and the world, a guarantee of stability and source of serenity in the decisive and turbulent moments of the fall of the Berlin Wall. His firmness and generosity were essential to define the course of the German reunification process. At the same time, such virtues confirmed the importance of Germany in the process of the European integration and ensured that the country's political influence is compatible with its economic strength.
The Brazilian Government extends its condolences to the people and Government of Germany and to the family and friends of the late chancellor.
