The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Aloysio Nunes Ferreira, will make an official visit to Haiti on June 2 and 3.
In Port au Prince, he will be received by Prime-Minister of Haiti, Jack-Guy Lafontant, and will hold a meeting with Foreign Minister Antonio Rodrigue. The Minister will also meet with the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary General in Haiti, Sandra Honoré, and will visit the headquarters of the UN Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH).
During the visit, Minister Aloysio Nunes Ferreira will attend the Ceremony of Transmission of Command from the 25th to the 26th and last military contingent of Brazilian MINUSTAH troops, thus marking the final period of Brazil's successful participation in the Mission. More than 36 thousand Brazilian military personnel have worked in the Mission since its establishment in 2004, making Brazil the largest troop contributor. Throughout this period, the MINUSTAH military component has been under the command of Brazilian officers.
Brazil keeps a broad technical cooperation agenda with the Government of Haiti, with particular emphasis on health and vocational training. Brazil has also acted in several humanitarian assistance fronts in order to relief of the state of emergency caused by the passage of Hurricane Mathew, in October 2016.
