President Dilma Rousseff will visit Turkey between October 6 and 8. On the occasion, she will hold working meetings with President Abdullah Gül and Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and will attend the Brazil-Turkey Business Seminar.
On May 2010, Brazil and Turkey adopted the Strategic Partnership Action Plan, which involves initiatives on energy, defense, agricultural cooperation, science and technology and cultural promotion, among others.
Political dialogue between both countries has increased in the past few years, as witnessed by the many meetings between high level officials. Brazil and Turkey converge with regard to the defense of multilateralism, the search for diplomatic solutions for international disputes, better representation within global governance institutions and respect for diversity, as enshrined in the Alliance of Civilizations initiative.
Trade exchange between Brazil and Turkey has tripled since 2005, reaching US$ 1.7 billion by the end of 2010. In August 2011, trade flow had already exceeded US$ 1.6 billion. There are ongoing negotiations for a free trade area between Mercosur and Turkey, under the Framework Agreement signed in 2008.
