The Brazilian Government welcomes, with satisfaction, the announcement by South African authorities on the reopening of the country to Brazilian pork exports. The South African pork market was closed to Brazilian products in 2005, when a foot-and-mouth disease outbreak was detected in Brazil. The Brazilian Government has ever since delivered several demarches to allow the resumption of the exports of this sector.

The reopening of the South African market – a country with approximately 55 million inhabitants and a GDP of US$ 327 billion – offers new oportunities to Brazilian exporters and represents an important step forward in the comercial and agricultural relations between the two countries.
