It is with sorrow that the Brazilian Government has learned of the passing, on January 10th, of Roman Herzog, former President of the Federal Republic of Germany.
In all of his public functions, Herzog has proved himself as a defender of democracy, freedom and peace. As the Federal President (from 1994 to 1999), he has greatly contributed to the conformation of Germany in the post-reunification period.
He visited Brazil in 1995, accompanied by an important government and business delegation, which allowed for progress in the political and economic relations between the two countries.
The Brazilian Government conveys its solidarity to the people and the Government of Germany and presents its deep condolences to the family of Roman Herzog.
