The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses its deep sorrow for the tragic plane crash in Colombia, which took the lives of players, members of the technical & management team of Chapecoense Football Association ("Associação Chapecoense de Futebol"), as well as journalists and crew accompanying the delegation. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs conveys its sympathy to the families of the victims, to the people of the city of Chapecó and wishes the survivors of the accident a speedy recovery.
The Embassy of Brazil in Bogota has deployed staff to Medellín. Ambassador Julio Bitelli is leading the effort on the ground to provide assistance to the victims and family members, as well as support for the transfer of remains to Brazil. Additional staff for the support team is being sent by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from Brasília to Medellín.
