The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Luis Almagro, will make an official visit to Brazil on October 6, when he will be received by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Serra. On the occasion, issues of the regional agenda and of the relation between Brazil and the OAS will be discussed.
Uruguayan diplomat and politician, Luis Almagro was Foreign Minister of his country between 2010 and 2015. In March, 2015, he was elected for the post of Secretary General of the OAS, the highest position on the Secretariat of the Organization.
The OAS is the world's oldest regional organization in operation. It was created in 1948, to replace the Pan American Union, founded in 1910.
