The Minister of External Relations, Antonio de Aguiar Patriota, and the Minister of Defense, Celso Amorim, will take part in the II Meeting of South American External Relations and Defense Ministers of Participating Countries to the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH), to take place in Montevideo, on 8 September. The meeting will represent an opportunity to exchange views on the performance of MINUSTAH and to reaffirm the commitment of South American countries with its success, preceeding discussions to take place in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) in October, on the renewal of its mandate.
South American countries (Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay, besides Brazil) contribute with around 5.300 military troops and police force to MINUSTAH, which corresponds to approximately 44% of the Mission’s manpower.
