The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia, Datuk Richard Riot Anak Jaem, is making a working visit to Brasília on 26 August 2011. He will be received by the Secretary-General of External Relations, Ambassador Ruy Nunes Pinto Nogueira, and by the Undersecretary-General for Political Affairs II, Ambassador Maria Edileuza Fontenele Reis.
During the meetings, issues on the trade, investment and bilateral cooperation agendas will be addressed. The process of strengthening links between Brazil and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), of which Malaysia is a founding member, will also be discussed.
Malaysia was Brazil’s third trade partner among ASEAN members in 2010, with an exchange of US$ 2.95 billion. Vale will make an important investment in the Asian country and SCOMI, together with Brazilian groups, won the bid for building monorails in São Paulo and Manaus. Besides, Petrobras and Petronas, from Malaysia, jointly exploit petroleum in Mozambique.
