The Brazilian Government is pleased to inform that the Government of the Portuguese Republic has granted its agrément to the appointment of Luiz Alberto Figueiredo Machado as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Brazil in that country. According to the Brazilian Constitution, the appointment must still be confirmed by the Federal Senate.
Luiz Alberto Figueiredo Machado is Ambassador of Brazil to the United States of America. He was Minister of Foreign Affairs (2013-2014) and acted as Executive Secretary of the Rio+20 National Commission. As a diplomat, he served at the Brazilian Mission to the UN (1986-1989), at the Embassy in Santiago (1989-1992), at the Embassy in Washington (1996-1999), at the Embassy in Ottawa (1999-2002), at the Brazilian Mission to UNESCO (2003-2005), and as the Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York (2013).
