The Undersecretary General for Political Affairs II, Ambassador José Alfredo Graça Lima, will visit Tehran on April 11, to co-host, with the Deputy Foreign Minister for European and American Affairs, Ambassador Majid Takht Ravanchi, the meeting of the Brazil-Iran Political Consultations Mechanism. The previous meeting of the Mechanism was held in 2011, in Brasilia.
The meeting of the Political Consultations Mechanism will provide for an exchange of views on the international agenda, on multilateral issues, bilateral meetings and visits planned for 2016 and possibilities of cooperation in several areas.
Relations between Brazil and Iran, traditionally guided by constructive dialogue and regular visits from side to side, experienced new momentum in the context of implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPoA) last January and of the lifting of international sanctions against Iran.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Mauro Vieira, visited the country in September, 2015, and the Minister of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade, Armando Monteiro, in October 2015. In the first half of 2016, several Iranian ministerial authorities will visit Brazil, such as the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohammad Javad Zarif, the Minster of Defense, Hossein Dehghan, and the Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance, Ali Tayebnia.
Trade flow reached USD 1.69 billion in 2015 and USD 458 million in the first quarter of this year.
