Brazil was elected today, on a meeting held by the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), for the 2017-2019 term of the UN Women Executive Board, organism which seeks to promote and enhance the activities of the UN in support of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls.
The election reflects Brazil's commitment to the protection and promotion of the rights of all women and girls, also reinforced by the Brazilian presidency in the Commission on the Status of Women. Full gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls are priorities of the Brazilian Government, indispensable for the full implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Brazil follows closely the work of UN Women, and recognizes its protagonism in the promotion of human rights of all women and girls, in all their diversity.
The Brazilian Government congratulates the other countries elected to the Executive Board and reiterates its determination to contribute consistently, in the fulfillment of its mandate, for UN Women to continue to play this important role.
