The Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Mauro Vieira, and of Defense, Aldo Rebelo, will visit Asuncion on April 4, 2016, to take part, alongside the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Paraguay, Eladio Loizaga, and the Minister of National Defense of Paraguay, Diógenes Martínez, in the First Meeting of the 2+2 Consultation and Strategic Assessment Mechanism between the Ministries of Defense and Foreign Affairs of Brazil and Paraguay.
The Ministers will address bilateral cooperation in defense and security, in addition to regional and multilateral issues. Military cooperation between Brazil and Paraguay dates back to the 1940s and is the largest program in this field carried out by the Armed Forces of Brazil in the world. The opening of the 2+2 Mechanism demonstrates the mutual desire to broaden and strengthen the bilateral relationship.
In addition to the meeting of the 2+2 Mechanism, Minister Mauro Vieira will keep work meeting with Minister Eladio Loizaga to examine issues of the bilateral and regional agendas.
