His Holiness Kirill I, Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, will visit Brazil from February 19 to 21, 2016. It is the first visit of a Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church to Brazil and to Latin America.
On February 19, Patriarch Kirill I will be received by President Dilma Rousseff in Brasilia.
In Rio de Janeiro, on February 20, he will hold a service by the statue of Christ the Redeemer, on Corcovado Mountain. After that, a meeting is planned with the Cardinal Archbishop of Rio de Janeiro, Orani João Tempesta.
In São Paulo, on February 21, Patriarch Kirill I will hold a liturgy at the Antiochian Orthodox Cathedral and will visit the Russian Orthodox Church of Our Lady of the Annunciation.
The Russian Orthodox Church has about 150 million members worldwide. In Brazil, the community of followers is estimated between three and four thousand people.
