The Brazilian Government follows with attention the evolution of the political situation and takes note of the postponement of the second round of the Presidential elections in Haiti, scheduled for yesterday, January 24. In condemning the recent episodes of violence in the country, it calls upon the Haitian people to peacefully express their opinions and urges the Haitian political forces to repudiate, unequivocally, the use of violence.

Brazil also calls upon the political actors participating in the ongoing presidential elections to work together in search of consensus, with a view to the prompt resumption and early conclusion of the electoral process, with the election of the other members of the Parliament and the new President.

The Brazilian Government reaffirms its permanent solidarity and commitment with the cause of a democratic and stable Haiti, according to the sovereign will of the Haitian people and in consultation with the United Nations and other countries and organizations associated with such goal.
