Minister Mauro Vieira participates today in the opening ceremony and in the beginning of works of the 10th World Trade Organization (WTO) Ministerial Conference, which takes place between December 15 and 18, in Nairobi, Kenya. The Ministers will review the 20 years of the WTO and will seek the conclusion of new agreements within the Organization.
The Ministers will discuss, in particular, the prohibition of export subsidies for agricultural products and equivalent measures. It is a long-standing demand of developing countries that could ultimately turn into a discipline of the multilateral trading system. Brazil has actively contributed to the achievement of this goal, and is prepared to constructively participate in all negotiations in Nairobi.
Brazil considers that the success of the meeting in Nairobi, following the important results achieved in the last Ministerial Conference in Bali, would strengthen the role of the WTO as the center of a dynamic and non-discriminatory multilateral trading system, which would facilitate a greater international insertion of Brazil in the world economy.
