On the occasion of the Proclamation of the Republic of Sudan, on 9 July 2011, in Juba, the Brazilian Government established diplomatic relations with the new country by means of the following Joint Communiqué:
JOINT COMMUNIQUÉ ON THE ESTABLISMENT OF DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS BETWEEN THE FEDERATIVE REPUBLIC OF BRAZIL AND THE REPUBLIC OF SOUTH SUDAN
The Federative Republic of Brazil
The Republic of South Sudan,
Wishing to develop relations of friendship and cooperation in the political, economic, cultural and other fields;
Seeking to develop its relations based on the principles and norms set forth in the Charter of the United Nations and International Law; and
Convinced that the establishment of diplomatic relations addresses the interests of both countries and will contribute to the consolidation of mutual cooperation and peace,
Decide to establish diplomatic relations from the date of the signing of this Joint Communiqué, in accordance with the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 1961.
Done at Juba on July 9th 2011, in the Portuguese and English languages, being both texts equally valid.
