The Minister of External Relations of Uruguay, Luis Almagro, will visit Brasília on 21 November, when he will hold a working meeting with Minister Antonio de Aguiar Patriota.
The Foreign Ministers will go over the main issues in the bilateral and regional agendas and discuss the progress of projects agreed upon by the Heads of States of both countries at President Dilma Rousseff’s visit to Montevideo last May.
Ministers Patriota and Almagro will also discuss priority issues in the regional integration agenda in preparation for the upcoming MERCOSUL Summit, to be held in Montevideo next week. The Summit will officially close the Uruguayan Pro Tempore presidency of the bloc, held this semester.
Brazil has established itself in the last few years as Uruguay’s main trade partner. In 2010, bilateral trade exceeded US$ 3 billion, a 19.4% increase in relation to the previous year. Trade exchange was balanced, with Brazilian exports reaching US$1.5 billion, the same value of imports from the neighboring country.
