Ambassador Cláudia Fonseca Buzzi
Ambassador Cláudia Fonseca Buzzi was born in Presidente Prudente, São Paulo State, on July 31, 1962. She holds a degree in Law from the University of São Paulo (USP), and completed the Diplomatic Career Preparatory Course at the Rio Branco Institute in 1986.
Her first professional experience as a diplomat was in the administration, at the Division of Human Resources. She has also served as Advisor to the Department for Asia and Oceania (1990-1991) and to the Protocol (1995-1996). After two years serving as Deputy Head of the South America I Division (1996-1998), she worked at the General Secretariat for Foreign Affairs (1999-2001), where she had oversight for the Secretariat’s administration, among other responsibilities. Previous positions also include Coordinator at the Office of the Special Advisor on Federal and Congressional Affairs (AFEPA) (2009-2012), Chief of Staff of the General Secretariat for Brazilian Communities Abroad (2012-2014) and Chief of Staff of the General Secretariat for Foreign Affairs (2015-2017).
While abroad, she served at the Embassy in Buenos Aires, from 1991 to 1995, when she headed the Administration Section, and then from 2002 to 2006, when she was in charge of the Cultural Section. She was also posted at the Consulate General in Buenos Aires, where she served as Deputy Consul General and Head of the Community Relations Section (2006-2009) and as Consul General (2017-2019).
During her career, administration-related themes played a significant role in the positions she held in different areas and qualified her to take office as Administrative Management Secretary.
Some of the major awards she received include the Santos-Dumont Medal of Merit (2000), the Tamandaré Medal of Merit (2000), the Alvorada Medal of Merit (2001) and the Grand Cross of the Order of Rio Branco (2017).
