Aloysio Nunes Ferreira
Minister Aloysio Nunes Ferreira Filho was born in São José do Rio Preto, State of São Paulo, on April 5th, 1945.
He holds a law degree from the University of São Paulo (1967) and studied Political Economy at the University of Paris VII (1969-1972) and Political Science at the University of Paris I (1972-1974).
Mr. Nunes Ferreira became a Public Prosecutor of the State of São Paulo in 1981. He began his political career as a State Representative of São Paulo (1982-1986 and 1986-1990). He was elected Vice-Governor of the State of São Paulo (1991-1994), Federal Deputy for 3 terms (1995-1999, 1999-2003 and 2003-2005) and Senator of the Republic (2011-2019).
During the government of President Fernando Henrique Cardoso, he held the office of Secretary General of the Presidency (1999) and Minister of Justice (2001).
At the National Congress, Mr. Nunes Ferreira was the President of the Committee on Foreign Relations and National Defense of the Federal Senate (2015-2016-7), President of the Joint Committee on Intelligence Activities of the National Congress (2016-2017) and Leader of the Government in the Federal Senate (2016-2017).
Mr. Nunes Ferreira was sworn in as the Minister of Foreign Affairs on March 7th, 2017.
